The ethos of Back to SchoolBank East Renfrewshire is to raise and maintain self-esteem, pride, self-respect and dignity in children living in poverty and hardship … simply by providing a brand new uniform. The children remain anonymous to us and we operate on a referral system with local support agencies, schools and third sector organisations.
East Renfrewshire Back to SchoolBank provides children, in situations of poverty and hardship, with a brand new school uniform. It’s based on the concept of Food Banks, wherein shoppers can buy items of school uniform when buying for their own families. Child Poverty Action Group state that there is a direct correlation between poverty and educational achievement and the ethos of the Back to School Banks is to change that, by providing brand new uniform clothing, gym kit, school bag, stationery. All items required for the school day.
We work on a referral basis only, which comes to us by way of support agencies such as Citizens Advice, Social Work Depts and Family Resource Centres. We also receive referrals directly from schools and Third Sector organisations and other charities such as Barnardo’s and Womens Aid.
